This full-day workshop explores applying Low Arousal principles in ways that are respectful of neurodivergent lived experience and responsive to different communication and sensory needs. Grounded in the concept of double empathy, the day reframes behaviour support as a shared problem to solve rather than a one-sided deficit to fix.
Through case studies, video exemplars and reflective practice, participants will learn how language, assumptions and supporter behaviour can either increase or reduce distress. The emphasis is on collaboration, autonomy and emotional safety, with practical strategies that move beyond behaviour management toward genuine understanding and co-designed supports.

Low Arousal is sometimes seen as passive or overly simplistic, but when practised through a neuroaffirming lens it becomes a deliberate, evidence-informed way to reduce distress, protect dignity and support autonomy.
